Frequently Asked Questions

What is the native resolution of the engine?
All rendering sections including output resolution are fix defined to 640x480 (32bit) resolution. The reason is simple - best performance optimization!
Is the input resolution of videos limited to 640x480?
Of course not. We even feature deinterlace so you don't need to downscale your inputs. But note that videos sized to 640x480 and 320x240 are best for live performance.
What codec is suggested for best video mixing?
Definitely motion-jpeg. It produces larger files than e.g. DivX codec but on the other hand processor is less loaded by decoding and bi-directional playback and random cuts are smooth.
How do I setup Circulation?
Presently there is no GUI-based configuration tool, but this is planned for future development. The basic software setup is in 'circulation.ini' file. This config is loaded as default. However you can define more setup files and run 'circulation.exe' with setup filename as parameter to access more defined configs.
How do I setup my image/video data for mixing?
Each source plugin has an appropriate folder including a configuration (text-file based) list which defines assigned data. More details are described in documentation and in demo examples of the downloadable free beta version.
Is there any easier way to setup my data?
We are going to introduce a standalone setup tool to configure your sources in more comfortable way including video and image conversion (if necessary).
What's the difference between full version and free beta limited?
In terms of GUI and basic functionality there are absolutely no differences between beta limited and full beta. What you see is what you get. But once purchased, the power of Circulation is yours to use to full effect! In the full version the final mix is routed full-screen to your secondary display output.
Presets and timeline recordings can be saved for instant recall. Your AVI recording will be in higher resolution (640x480) with configurable fps and no watermarks. The screen-shot feature will also be activated plus full AVIPLAY of up to 2600 videos in total.
How is your AVI recording working? Does it save video 'on-fly' or is it rendered in off-line mode and all frames are processed in given fps?
In the recording mode the real time watch is stopped (with drop-framing) and system is switched to off-line mode with given fps. The recording is smooth. However, if you record footage including live-camera you may experience faster movements in recording (depends on the speed of your computer). AVI is saved in uncompressed format.
Which picture formats are supported?
Currently TGA and JPEG images in gray-scale or RGB.
Are other video formats than AVI supported?
Other codecs and formats will be supported in future releases but at the moment we are concentrating our efforts on developing Circulation's video processing and interface rather than getting bogged down in the codec can of worms.
Can I use fire-wire DV camera as live video source?
This is in the main focus for the near future development.
What kind of live camera input does work now?
You can use any capture device with Video For Windows driver support. Supported resolutions are 320*240 (24bit) and 640x480 (24bit).
How can I use multiple camera support?
Circulation supports EIE IVC-200, 4 channels video capture card (PCI). The full software version features source plugin CAPTURE4X which supports all 4 camera channels in various modes (including visualisation of all 4 channels in one source).
What kind of automatic audio-driven features are implemented?
This tool is intended for video improvisation and to be a proper partner to other fields of improvised art. Therefore we would like to keep as much control to the creator as possible instead of developing artificial pre-programmed behaviors. However audio modulated generators and triggers are definitely in development focus.
Why is beta version on sale when the product is still not finished?
Circulation Beta is offered for sale at a substantially reduced price to professional VJs so they can both immediately use, as well as develop a great video live mixing instrument. This funds future development and offers you the opportunity to craft the tools you need. We plan to be really responsive to the first pioneer customers. Tell us what you need.
What is the usual release cycle?
Each customer receives unique login/password on the web-site to access their secure zone where latest compiled version will be available for download and more. We claim to be flexible in bug-fixing or introducing new features as soon as possible (this states for the sell of beta version). Even on live chat we can hunt down the bug together and introduce the fix in few minutes on-line. Performance is the first consideration for us, stability the second.
Why it's a good idea to buy still unfinished program?
Because you can start to do great shows already now! (If you spent a proper time in learning - this is live video instrument/synthethizer not autopilot music visualizer). You save money and have all the new features until version 1.0 will be released for FREE.
Are any less 'techie' video products planned for the future?
Circulation is our main core video-rendering solution and more wide-range appealing (more user-friendly) products are planned to be developed (but first things first).
